Sliding door issue

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a VW crafter 2016 RWD. Since buying it I’ve had some issues with the sliding door, firstly the cable was torn so it wasn’t locking but that’s all sorted now, from fixing that I noticed that the hook latch on the bottom bracket doesn’t hook into the rear latch and when I close the door fully the hook then catches on the runner and I have to yank the door open which bends the hook back out of place.

Also, when the sliding door is fully closed there is a massive gap at the bottom where it isn’t sealing. I’ve tried adjusting all the runners and everything but doesn’t seem to make a difference. I tightened them to the max out limit to being the door as tight in as possible and that made the door jam into the guides on the body. I’ve since had to remove one of these because it jams in every time I close the door.

I don’t know if anyone has experiences one or both of these issues

Pls help

Maybe it had some body work done around that side and the opening is misalined? Worth checking.

Did you ever figure out your problem?

I have the exact same issues as your having, the bottom of my door is full of body filler so its been damaged to some extent

My side door has been intermittently locking for a while but now it wont lock at all, I also have some daylight coming in through the bottom of the door but its not much after adjusting it

I still haven’t managed to get the issue sorted. I took it to the garage and they quoted £200 to do something with the door but I have suspicions that they wouldn’t actually sort out the sealing issue.

I think mine is pulling in slightly at the top but can’t seem to adjust it out any more which may be pull the bottom out slightly, but it shouldn’t have as big of a gap as it does

Im assuming theres some module that controls the side door separately thats faulty but everthing seems fine inside, ive ended up just disconnecting the outside handle so the door cant be opened from outside

Ive not bulkhead so the door can be opened by reaching round from the passenger door, its slightly annoying but atleast its locked

Just a thought with these sliding doors: Check the rollers, as some are made with nylon and the diameter can lessen over time( especially ex delivery van) this will then mis align the whole door against the frame

I am also experiencing similar problems. I have just bought a 2015 Crafter to convert. The door locks but is very stiff to open. I have removed the step and cleaned out all the muck in the well, the plastic trim below the bottom roller rail was not seated properly as the two cables to the door were not sitting properly in their designated channels in the arm. This helped as the bottom of the arm no longer binded with the rubber seal around the bottom of the door opening but it didn’t solve the door becoming stiff just prior to closing. I tried adjusting the height of this bottom roller by loosening the three screws in the door but if you raise it too high then the latch to hold the door open hits the top of the bracket and does not engage with the pin, and had to lower it back down.
The previous owner obviously had problems with the door as the top rear lock/latch has been removed and I’m left with a hole in the back of the door not sure if I should try and replace this?
All the nylon rollers look good and all turn when sliding the door I suspect they all may have been replaced. Apart from renewing them all I’m not sure what I need to do. The trim and body panels all seem to line up properly the gap at the front of the door may be slightly wider than the back and I guess that to adjust this I would need to loosen the middle roller on the back of the door.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
