Overheating warning when should be cold...

Hi all. I've been busy converting my 2019 Crafter into a camper so it's not been driven much at all. Today I started driving it and got a mile down the road and it came up as an overheating warning. The temperature gauge hadn't even moved from it's cold starting position.

I stopped and switched the engine off. The fan carried on running for a fair while. I let it cool down for 20mins and then decided to see if I could get it home. When I switched it back on the orange engine light was lit but no overheating warning.

I got back home just as it warned me again it was overheating. I've got it booked into a garage next week but wondered if anyone has any ideas what this could be and whether it's perhaps a common fault or easy fix!

Thanks

Have you checked your coolant level? Could be the egr valve - no visible leaks as it leaks coolant into the cylinder head and can cause the engine to hydro lock if your unlucky

I did post a reply to what was causing your issue but it appears to have dissapeared.

OK, when the fan is set to 0 the other 2 knobs stay on whatever setting it was set to prior to you turning off the fan. Simply leave the fan on 1 or above and it will work.

Interesting... So you are thinking the setting of the internal fan would cause an engine overheating warning?

I put a code reader on it. It came up with exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 and also low battery voltage. I have had the sensor replaced and also driven the vehicle to charge the battery.

Not had a repeat of the problem so hopefully it's sorted.

You are right, my bad, I read the issue wrong and thought it was internal heater not engine :)

I know it's a moot point as we have all moved on but I was puzzled as to how I managed get my respose so wrong.

Thankfully after a quick search I found out that I was respoding to another thread on the internal heater not blowing cold. Though as silly as a rook I am perhaps not as mad as I think (though my son would disagree)
