Hi
Just joined. Buying a new crafter to hopefully transform into my new camper as just sold a T5 which has been great but need more room to ease my sore back😹.
Looking at getting 17 inch alloys but most packages come with At tyres which are not the best in the wet. Does anyone have recommendations for good tyres but to fill arches a bit better too?
Much appreciated
Tony

Welcome! Have you ordered an MWB or LWB vehicle?
And will you doing the conversion yourself or at an upfitter?
What will the layout be? How many seats/beds?

Mwb, going to do it myself, not looking forward to cutting out the windows but needs must eh😹
Main thing for me is a fixed bed with garage, do a lot of hills so boots and rucksacks have a place to go without being in the way.

Hi Tonethemoan have you seen the wheels & tyres threads? have you picked your wheels yet?
Once you start with windows it isnt too scary. Its the first cut in a new van, when you think "what am I doing?"
I used a jigsaw for first window, then bought a nibbler for my drill. Used that for rest of cuts and the skylight.

I fitted sliding windows with screens in my MWB and then side pods for the bedroom area.

IKEA make a great bed frame too that woks well for an elevated bed with garage storage below.
Good luck. Any pics yet?

Hi Mike
Many thanks for the advice, much appreciated 👍pick van up on Saturday. Was planning a trip to IKEA to recce units for under garage area. Was contemplating getting black original wheels as saw them on other vans and look good, but with good road tyres. Head is filled with ideas and trepidation 😭

Hi all! Does anyone know what the Ikea bed name is that's mentioned here? Does it sit on the floor or can it be suspended over an MTB garage in the back of a van?

welcome and good luck with your project. The beauty of using the IKEA bed idea is that you can dismantle the whole thing should you wish to fairly easily

Cheers again for all the info legends, it's been a few months now and the van is all but done. I didn't even know what a rivnut was before I started this process but I now have two rivnut guns and after installing probably 150 of the 'damned' things haha I would say I've become a grand master.

Also, the Skorva beams are a godsend, they are absolutely brilliant.

One thing I've learned, the hard way, with the Skorva brackets is that they are readily available FOR FREE in any Ikea store (pending stock of course), just walk up to the spare parts desk and tell them what you are looking for. I was struggling to find any in Australia, I ended up buying some from an eBay seller in the UK and paying an insane amount to ship them... but then a couple of months later, living in a somewhat tourist town here in Tasmania, someone was passing through with a similar van and we ended up chatting... turned out they worked for Ikea. I laughed, and cried, but thought I'd pass it on here so someone else can be spared my mistake haha
