Driver and passenger seat removal hints and tips

Morning all,

I am going to be removing the double passenger and drivers seat soon. I have most of the kit ready, single seat base, swivels, seats etc.

Before I start is there anything that I should be aware of? Any unforeseen issues that you or others may have experienced. I’m thinking mainly electrical issues. We have a 23 plate crafter and I am removing the OEM seats and putting in some leather Golf GTD seats. I’m personally not bothered about seat occupancy sensors working but will the van have a fit and light up like Blackpool illuminations if I don’t reconnect the sensors.

I’m very good at practical stuff and have a little electrical experience but no automotive electrical experience so I don’t want to kill my van, fortunately it’s not the daily driver.

If you have any advice please let me know, it is appreciated.

Many thanks
Guy

You say that your van is a pre 2024 model, then the seat belt warning wiring to the double seat should be only two wires. If so not a problem. If there are eight wires to the double seat and four to the single one read on.

And a warning to others....

If your van is a 2024 model or newer DON'T disconnect the wiring that connects the seats and then switch the ignition on!! If you do you will have an airbag warning on the dash which can only be reset with diagnostic equipment. There is also a rumour that if you have an electric handbrake you may not be able to release the handbrake either.

For those who are fitting seat swivels and need to extend the wiring loom that is connected with the Red seventeen way connector I can supply simple 'plug & play' extension looms if you need them, PM me.
