Hello everyone

Six months ago, I managed to buy a 2018 VW Crafter 4Motion, LWB version. Since then, I've completed mechanical maintenance and anti-corrosion protection for the entire chassis. While researching interior trim and other possible modifications, I've discovered that most products and solutions for MANs and Crafters come from the UK. Even companies from my home country, such as VanDerMoon and Mobiframe, sell more and are more willing to do so in the UK than in the local market.

I hope that, thanks to the knowledge and experience of the members of this forum, I'll be able to complete the next stage of my Crafter campervan conversion this year.

Hi! No, what I meant was that you would have spotted an identical van in my profile picture. That's the van I was hinting at.

Oh, I see now! They actually look identical from the side. The Indium Gray makes a good impression. From what I've read, yours is still a young beauty, 11-2024, right? By the way, I wanted to ask: did you perhaps order the DiffLock option with the 4x4 drive?

Nope. I wasn't lucky enough to find a model that had everything I wanted. Unfortunately, that's one of the drawbacks of the aftermarket. Worse still, it's one of the few options that supposedly can't be added outside the factory.

You can add an ARB airlocker...

You bought on the used vehicle market.
Aftermarket means non-OEM parts, spares and add-ons.

When you buy original vehicle parts from the dealer they're OEM, when you buy (generic) parts that are not from the brand of the vehicle itself that's considered after market

Your next step is to find out whether the 2017+ had the same diff internals as the old Mercedes-based Crafter.

I've asked Jeroen van der Veer a while back about my gen 6 haldex, to put a custom controller on it and this isn't possible yet.

Your AWD has no controller and in case of identical internals as the Mercedes axle should fit right in.

From a purchasing point of view it makes no sense to redesign the metal gears and the same parts are carried over across generations of vehicles.

In the meantime, I decided to ask ARB about this. After all, the 2017+ model has been on the market for a while, so maybe they have some experience. I'm not planning on doing any heavy off-roading, but after seeing the ability to get out of the special rollers with DiffLock engaged in a test comparing different drivetrain versions, it seemed like a pretty interesting option. I'll share their response with the forum.
