Hi from Cornwall and France!

Hi - I am also living in Cornwall but have a property in France and have just bought a 2023 Westfalia Sven Hedin on Friday and brough it back for the summer. It is second hand but in new condition - the previous UK owners upgraded to a Hymer 4X4. The dealer was near Perigeux and have 1 new one left - I think they are not so common in France.........Lovely to drive and a lovely finish and from my 800 miles since friday love it.

I have a question for TonyL if he can help. As my french isnt fantastic the handover was somewhat ropey and I am unsure about the hot water system and whether it has a seperate switch and needs to be run prior to use etc. Can you help at all with that ? I can only see the heating system on the electric panel and the seperate underfloor heating switch.

Another pitfall buying in France is the manauals for the Van will be in French also - I have asked Westfalia via they website if they can share an english PDF.

thanks and good luck

Hi AlansidSven

Welcome and a great purchase. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Within the control panel there is a menu for the heating system. As you scroll through the settings there are separate settings for:
Heating on or off
Fan speed
Van main area temp
Van washroom temp
Hot water on or off.

You don’t have to switch the heating on to have hot water. You only need to set the hot water to on.

It will heat the hot water very quickly. Make sure you have water in the system.

If you haven’t got water in the system you need to fill the fresh water tank and switch the water pump on (this is on the front face of the plinth under the drivers seat. The open up the taps and bleed the air out. I find the best way to do this is one at a time, you need to bleed the air out of the cold and hot systems (move the taps controls between hot and cold). Don’t forget the shower!

The underfloor heating will on work if the heating is on and running.

I am away today so can’t post any pictures. But will when I get chance.

Sven Hedin manual in English attached.

@TonyL you are a star, your contribution to this forum is just what we need to boost it along.

@Pauly would the Sven operating manual be good in the 'Files' section? Also is there any mileage in making specific sections for the major commercial conversions, i.e Sven Hedin or just Westfalia?

And thanks for the copy of the Sven Manual - I owe you a pint or 2 if you are even in Cornwall. This wasnt even in French in the van - only the TGE manufacturers version for the non converted model.

Alan

No problem. I already had it.

Don’t hesitate to ask anything you are not sure of.

I will be in Cornwall at some point. I’ll give you a shout.

HI Tony,
I had contacted Westfelia 5 weeks ago before I went on this forum for a Sven manual and this was received today by email. They are not as prompt as you were and yours is already printed in my van!
It might be useful to add to downloads for others?

I have no idea, I have an aftermarket alarm and tracker fitted.

On the alarm I have you lock using the fob, which sets the alarm. However, if you push the lock button on the fob a 2nd time after 5 seconds the alarm beeps and disables the motion sensor.

Tony - One more question. I will be getting the ferry and wondered if you know how to set the alarm so it wont go off with motion sensors? The TGE manual I have is French.
thanks
OEM alarm? If so try pressing the lock button on the key fob twice. That may lock but not dead lock and disable the alarm.

I will have a look in the MAN manual. It seems things have been changed when aftermarket alarm fitted.
