Tyre inflators…..

Hi all

In this cold weather the tyre pressures reported on my lwb are dropping to just below the value the sensors are happy at.

Not an issue, but I’m curious - as I had previously tried to use my car inflator (and broke it 😁) on the crafter what do people carry to top up their tyres?

Does anyone bother, or just use the one at the garage? (I will also mention that I’d tried the one at my local garage but it broke too… which might have been coincidental or might not!). I was considering getting a decent battery powered one but wondered if anyone had a tried and tested make/model?

Thanks in advance as usual!

I have the same occurrence with tyre pressures on out TGE. On a cold day the tyre pressures can be as much as 5 degrees low but return to normal after eight or ten miles of reasonably quick driving and that's without weaving from side to side of the circuit 😄😄.

I also find that petrol station tyre inflation machines are quite often unable to inflate tyres to the required pressure, 59 & 61psi.

I echo your thoughts about a 12v compressor and watch with interest.

I have had the same issue with cold weather and tyre pressures. Also, according to the manual tyre pressures need to be checked with the tyres cold.

I found a service station with an airline that could inflate to the correct tyre pressures, but it was 5 miles away so the tyres were warm 🥴. Got into a routine of driving to the station, waiting a few minutes for the temps to settle and then inflating to 5psi above recommended pressure. I then check again next morning with the tyres cold and pressures are usually all round and within 1 - 2 psi of correct pressure.

Theres loads of units around that plug into 12v socket and do the job, most these days can have a preset pressure and cut off automatically, the only PITA with these is getting the machine side to side of the van with the lead etc
Ring do a nice unit for £30-35 that is rechargeable and does the job, then there are loads more up the price bracket from that depending what batteries/accuracy/connections etc you need https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9481754 need to check the max pressure

Personally i have a dewalt inflator that runs of my 18v drill batteries, its quick and accurate and has a built in light etc (it also does our paddleboards) but at a smidge over 100 quid its not for everyone !

Thanks @Pauly - I was looking of the DeWalt one as I have the batteries from their tools, so it’s nice to have the recommendation. I’d had a look at various other options but as I’d broken a Ring one already I’d lost confidence in them for the van.
I figured going heavy duty would be better and also cordless for being able to reach and be more portable for other uses
.
I’ll probably go down the same route as you for the flexibility it will give, and having the thumbs up on it. Thanks 👍
