Best I have managed so far is 23mpg, 18mpg when towing. Van is converted but thats without water on board.
It was always as bad when I got it brand new and it was just a panel van. Some are seeing some crazy higher mpg..... how

That does sound low. My van, a 177bhp auto is returning 30+ mpg on a run. This is on an engine that still only has 500 miles on it and running at around 3.2t

Just had a run from Cirencester to Hertford. Average MPG was 33.1, however I checked several times on down the M40 and M25 the average MPG was up as high as 33.8. I traveled with the ACC set to the speed limit.
Cruise control isn’t great for optimum fuel consumption.
To improve your fuel consumption.
Make a mental note of what your average consumption is currently and then drive with the instant MPG reading showing..
I treat it as a bit of a game to keep the instant readout higher than my average for as long as poss.
You’ll very quickly get used to exactly when lifting your right foot just half a millimetre makes a world of difference to MPG but zilch to speed.

Totally agree, but I’m lazy and ACC makes for a relaxing drive.
We have a new Polo GTI as well and if I drive without ACC and lift off on the hills etc. the car cuts the engine and rolls! 50+ mpg is easily achievable.
Worse average 26mpg and best 33 ish. Crafter converted to Motorhome, LWB high roof, with just under 3T, stock tyres. Winter is worse with winter tyres on, and alternator charging the leisure battery to.
So in terms of tank miles I see around the 300miles per tank. Any ideas where I should be looking? I clearly have a probem.
It was like this since new. I am wondering if a remap would be better for me.
The 177s seem to be great on fuel from what I have been reading. Mines a 140 though
If it’s using so much more fuel, I would have thought it might affect the emissions?
Perhaps that’s the starting point?
If it’s still under warranty, you’d have to labour the fact to the dealer that it was poor on fuel before conversion, else I reckon you’ll get fobbed off.
My fuel economy improved a good amount when I passed around 10k miles and the engine had loosened up a bit, really noticeable. I do a consistent type of driving and carry the same weight the bulk of the time.
I see you are running a bigger wheel tyre combo. Could the improvement I had been negated by changing the wheels around the same time?
If you have always had the wheels on then ignore the above.
If it helps rather than mpg figures mine does 400-450 a tank on regular diesel. I find the tank too small to previous vans but a long range tank wasn’t a thing/available when ordering.
