D+ connection

Hi all,

I have a crafter 2023 and want to connect a Victron dc to dc charger can I just plug into the fuse box under the passenger seat with a wire tap. If so what size fuse do I plug into it. As all the wire tap connectors seem to have small cable coming from them so wanted to check it’s safe to go this. The victron dc to dc is a 12/12-30 Orion-tr smart non isolated. Tia Andy

Hi Andy,

Have a look here, yes I know it's a Russian site and a pdf download but it seems reliable.

You can use a piggy back fuse in any equipped position in fuse holder B that shows Terminal 15 in the right column. Terminal 15 is ignition switched live whilst terminal 30 is permanently live. Be aware that some locations that are not already equipped do not have a live connection installed. Personally I would use no more than a 3A fuse in your circuit and connect via a least essential existing service. That is how mine is connected and it works perfectly.

As Rod says use a 3a fuse off a switched live on the fuseboard under the seat, though I use a Renogy 60A B2B I used to have a Victrom 12/12/30 and used the same fuse tap, attached is a picture of mine (the red wire marked No5) I used a piggyback fuse to do this (a few £ off ebay for a pack of 5) My van has 2 single seats but I beleive it is the same placement on a double.

Yes @Tor the fuse holder is the same under a single and double seat but the surrounding plastic is considerably different. Mine is a single from the factory and like yours.

so I have done that and I keeps blowing the fuse. Am I doing something wrong here ? Tia Andy

I can’t go into that fuse holder as it’s got a 7.5 amp Fuse in so went to the next one along tested it was a switched live which it is then fuse blows. Any advice please ? Andy

@4ndy87 where are you wiring this to? It should be going to the L terminal on your 12/12- 30 only. See Orion manual

3A should be OK for that. Just to check that there isn't a short to chassis somewhere on the wire run, disconnect it from the Orion (and insulate the end) then connect to the ignition switched supplied fuse. If it still blows the fuse you have a fault in the wiring run. Not the most correct way to test it but with only a 3A fuse you should be OK. If you have a good multimeter you could simply test the disconnected wire for any continuity to chassis.
