The gearbox variants in the Crafter 2017
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has significantly changed the requirements profile for the modern gearboxes used in its vehicles. This has been made necessary by innovative developments in power transmission, such as the 6-speed manual gearbox for front-wheel drive and 4MOTION four-wheel drive. At the same time, the gearboxes had to be adapted to the different engine variants and operating conditions of the Crafter 2017.
This applies in particular to the high-torque engines with their pronounced dynamic properties. Nevertheless, the development goals still focussed on to reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
