170PS 4Motion Auto > 4000Kgs?

Hello and welcome. (y)

Carry 4000kgs unlikely.

Most will be plated to GVM of 3500kg with a carrying capacity of around 1300-1500kg depending upon spec.

I have a 177ps and have towed with a train weight above 6ton and the engine etc is well up to it.

There are companies out there though that can up plate them to 3900kg without mods or greater with. Unless you are talking about a 5000kg variant but then you get into other complications, tachometers etc.

Tell us what you are trying to do?

Great response thank you. This van is the 3500kg variant and a specialist company is plating it. The van had the VE uprated suspension but not sure that affects the carrying capacity. Just concerned we will have a van a. overloaded and b. too slow.

I believe you have to have updated suspension some of which is available as a factory option or aftermarket to go above 3900kg, up plating obviously required.

If you are going to run 4000kg GVM then I wouldn’t be too concerned about engine performance. I run close to 3500kg all the time and it’s refined and fast (for a van.) You do always have the option of a stage 1 remap too if you are concerned.
